Every month, visitors to our museum choose the exhibit they liked the most. The one that stood out for the month of October was the mushroom Macrolepiota procera.

Macrolepiota procera or the parasol mushroom is one of the best-known mushrooms in Greece, known by the names Zarkadisios, Tsikriki, Koukouli, Konstantas or Alecati. It is a large mushroom, with a white cap and brown scales, which is an edible species and very tasty. Its characteristic umbrella-like appearance of a mature species is not unnoticeable, and its height and diameter can reach 30-40 cm. It thrives from April to December, usually in groups, in woodlands, glades, and shrublands.
