The exhibit of the month for November 2023

Every month, visitors to our museum choose the exhibit they liked the most. The one that stood out for November was the Eurasian jay.
The Eurasian jay (Garrulus glandarius) is one of the most beautiful species of the crow family Corvidae, found in Europe, Asia and Africa and includes 35 subspecies. It is an epidemic species, and in Greece it is found almost everywhere as a sedentary, resident bird. It is distinguished by the blue spot on its wings but also by its blue eyes. They are common in woodlands, mainly in continental temperate and Mediterranean climates. They are omnivorous birds and feed on insects, small birds, eggs, or tree fruits, such as oak acorns, which are their favorite food. They cache food throughout the year especially in the autumn. They have a distinctive, loud, and intense call and can imitate the calls of other birds.
