Every month, museum visitors choose the exhibit they liked the most. What they singled out for March was the Eurasian beaver.

The beaver is the second largest rodent after the capybara and includes two species: the North American beaver (Castor canadensis) and the Eurasian beaver (Castor fiber). They are known for their strong teeth, with which they can cut branches and tree trunks, which they use to build their nest, and for dams, which they use as shelters. In this way, they create small ponds, which are useful for other species too, which makes the beaver's presence in wetlands important.

In Greece, the species has been extinct since the beginning of the 20th century, mainly due to hunting for its fur. However, in 2022, following a ministerial decision, has since given permission to the Greek NGO RWild in Greece, Beaver Trust & the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki to start the project for the reintroduction of the beaver in Northern Greece from 2023-2027!
