The exhibit of the month for April 2023

Every month, museum visitors choose the exhibit they like the most. What they singled out for April was the mushroom Gyromitra esculenta. Gyromitra esculenta, also known as Koutsoukaki or Makaronaki, has nothing to do with its name! This is a deadly poisonous mushroom, which causes gyrometric syndrome! Poisoning by this mushroom has symptoms ranging from dizziness and vomiting to death! It was used to boil it very well to release its toxins so that it could be consumed. The reason this mushroom is considered particularly dangerous is that it resembles an extremely tasty and edible mushroom, Morchella. This mushroom grows from early spring to early summer (March-June), in coniferous forests or sandy soils, in decomposing wood residues!
