The exhibit of the month for January 2024

Every month, museum visitors choose the exhibit they liked the most. What they singled out for January was the Laetiporus sulphureus mushroom.
The Laetiporus sulphureus mushroom is commonly known as the chicken of the woods because of its similar taste to chicken. It fruits from April to November in groups that layer on top of each other on the trunks of living or dead trees, mainly broad-leaved. It is large in size, up to 30 cm long, with an irregular fan shape, velvety texture, and a bright yellowish-orange color. It can be consumed well cooked and only when it is very fresh and soft because then it has juicy flesh and a pleasant smell.
