The 18th of May is the International Museum Day and has been celebrated since 1977, by the decision of the International Council of Museums (ICOM). The aim of this day is to highlight the vital role of museums in modern society, while the central message of it is the museums' contribution to strengthening education, promoting mutual understanding, peace and cooperation of people.

The 2022 celebration's theme is "The Power of Museums" and focuses on three main areas:

  • Sustainability: How museums contribute to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals set by the UN.
  • Innovation - New Technologies - Accessibility: How the use of new technologies and innovations in museums enhances the museum experience, as well as the accessibility of most of society as a whole.
  • The power of community building through education: The mission of museums is to transfer knowledge to the public. The way the museum's collections are presented, the educational programs and the activities that it organizes, contribute to the transfer of knowledge not only to students but to the whole population, contributing to lifelong learning.

Our Museum celebrates the International Museum Day and is open to the public offering free admission on Wednesday 18 May, between 15:00 and 17:00
