The exhibit of the month for May 2025

Every month, museum visitors choose the exhibit they liked the most. What they singled out for May was Bewick's Swan (Cygnus columbianus).
The Bewick's Swan is the smallest swan of the Holarctic and is also found in Greece as a winter visitor during its migration. Its wingspan reaches maximum two meters and its weight approximately 10 kg. It has white plumage and a black beak, where the base is bright yellow. It feeds mainly on aquatic vegetation and grass. Its global population is stable, while in Greece in recent years it has seen a particular increase, with the largest populations being recorded in the Evros River Delta and Lake Kerkini.
