The exhibit of the month for December 2022

Every month, museum visitors choose the exhibit they liked the most. What they singled out for December was the red deer.
The red deer (Cervus elaphus) is the fourth largest species of the deer family with a wide distribution. The subspecies C. e. hippelaphus, there is in Greece mainly in Rhodope and Parnitha. It displays a marked form of sexual dimorphism, with males having a larger body than females, and they are the only ones with antlers. Their antlers grow in the spring and fall off each year at the end of winter, and their branching shows their age.
