Every month, museum visitors choose the exhibit they liked the most. What they singled out for March was the Bonelli’s eagle. The Bonelli's eagle(Aquila fasciata), whose common name commemorates the Italian ornithologist and collector F. A. Bonelli, is a species of eagle with sparse worldwide distribution and also found in Greece. Bonelli's eagle is an excellent hunter, combining the strength of an eagle with the agility of a hawk, feeding mainly on birds, small mammals and reptiles. Its weight can reach 2.5 kg, with a wingspan of 145-165 cm and a body length of 55-65 cm. Regarding the state of its population, in Europe it belongs to the endangered species, while in Greece it belongs to the vulnerable species, since there are no more than 60 breeding pairs. The main threats are poaching and the destruction of its habitats, as well as the lack of food.
